Dodocool Mini Speaker: Smallest Decent BT Speaker?

We’ve got a lot of time for Dodocool at MobileTechTalk. They have items that are akin to many other similar companies but theirs are usually just a little different. For example, most Amazon-based retailers have a portable Bluetooth speaker product on offer, but Dodocool’s just might be one of the best for the size – it’s tiny! Here’s what we thought of the Dodocool Mini Speaker.

You might be asking what exactly is different about this product then, as I mentioned Dodocool usually do something just a little different to the rest. Well in this instance, not only is the Dodocool Mini Speaker, well, mini but it also doubles as a remote Selfie button. See, a bit different. Here’s the specs before we get too ahead of ourselves though.

  • Material: Aluminum Alloy + PC
  • Rated Power: 3W
  • Transmitting Frequency: 20Hz – 20kHz
  • THD: < 1%, S/N: > 80dB
  • Speaker Parameter: 36mm
  • Battery Capacity: 3.7V / 300mAh
  • Charging Voltage / Current: DC 5V / 300 mA
  • Music Playing Time: Approx. 2 – 4 hrs
  • Item Size: Approx. 1.66 * 1.44 in / 42.1 * 36.7 mm
  • Package Weight: Approx. 3.07oz / 87g

What you should take away from the above is nothing more than “The speaker is small and it has acceptable audio for the size”. It’s not going to blow your socks off in rumbling bass scenarios, and nor should it at the footprint it brings or the 3W output power. It’s just not realistic. No, that’s not what the Dodocool Mini Speaker is all about. It’s about portability, as well as delivering audio that can cover a short distance easily and with as little distortion at high volumes as possible – it delivers this to be fair.

A full plastic construction might make some speakers feel cheap but here, due to the small size, it feels like it’s built like a tank! On top is the speaker grille, whilst below is the power button-cum-selfie button centrally located with a small rubber circle acting as a stabilising base for the unit.

Pairing is as easy as you’d expect and whilst this unit is Bluetooth only, you won’t have to worry about battery life too much as it can last for around the 4 hour mark which for the built in 300mAh battery isn’t too shabby at all.

The unit does come with a little lanyard also to make sure you don’t lose this in the bottom of your bag or underneath your car seat (or wherever else you normally lose things), and whilst the Selfie button is a bit of a gimmick, the audio alone is enough to sell this without anything else added. It gets loud without distortion, delivers a noticeably different tone when it gets to a particularly bassy part of a song, and coupled with the 4 hour playback time can be charged in around 2 hours via the included USB cable. It’s a nice little package here and for less than a tenner (or a couple of cups of coffee) it’d make a nice gift for somebody. It can’t be faulted at this price really.
