Aukey USB Desk Fan Review

Another desk fan review? It must be summer. Truth is I’m writing this whilst there is thunder, lightning and rain in the sky (no joke). This is the UK after all. When you’re in a room with multiple machines under lights all day though it doesn’t hurt to have some cooling in the absence of air conditioners. The Aukey USB Desk Fan is my new favourite little gadget. Simplicity!

As you can imagine, there’s not much to say about a fan, that plugs in via USB. In fact you might have skipped this altogether because who wants to read a review of a desk fan right? Perhaps. I’m giving it a quick once over however as I’ve had 4 desk fans over the last 18 months or so and this one not only gives me great air flow courtesy of the 1700rpm fan, but the increased size of the fins and low power draw make this a quiet fan also. It’s even called out on the box “Ultra Quiet”. I wouldn’t say it was “Ultra” quiet but I would say that it is not far above ambient noise. Aukey measure this to be around 39dBA.

  • Model: EF-D01
  • Fan Speed: 1700rpm (±10%)
  • Airflow: 136cfm
  • Noise Level: 39.2dBA
  • Input: DC 5V 0.4A
  • Power Consumption: 2W
  • Connector: USB
  • Color: Gray
  • Dimensions: 210 x 180 x 98.9mm / 8.3″ x 7.09″ x 3.9″
  • Weight: 98g /3.46oz

The fan is simple in its operation. Plug in the USB to AC plug into the back of the fan, with the USB end plugging in to, you guessed it, a USB port. Job done. Use the inline button to toggle the unit on or off.

There are small silicone feet on stabilise and dampen the noise and they do a good job. Equally the unit can tilt through 360 degrees (if you wanted to) so it has some versatility too.

No, this isn’t the most glamorous product to review, and no there isn’t that much to say, but it sits on my desk alongside other more pricey gadgets because it does exactly what it says on the tin, at a low cost. If you’re after a USB powered fan for your SOHO take a look.
