Samsung Galaxy A5 Heading to Three UK

Our friends over at Three UK are always looking to deliver interesting partnerships. We recently had the announcement that the Honor 6+ will be launching with exclusive Honor-specific Three UK tariffs in May, and we now hear that Three are looking to bring onboard the Samsung Galaxy A5. Here’s the low down on the device!

The Galaxy A5 is slim, with an all metal unibody and sleek design.

At a time when Samsung has just announced their latest and greatest flagships, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge at an RRP of around £600 here in the UK, consumers are increasingly left with what seems a straight forward choice of quality vs cash. Samsung are, amongst others, looking to cash in on this gap and are increasingly providing mid-range devices to plug the hole in their offering and provide the consumer with additional choices that are perhaps more palatable. Enter the Galaxy A5.

The Galaxy A5 looks to provide the same slimline and sleek design aesthetic that is found on their flagship lines at a more pocket friendly price. The device is primarily aimed at the younger demographic; those that utilise their device for social media interactions and selfie shots, as well as users who still want a premium feeling device.

The Galaxy A5 sports a 5″ 720p (294 ppi) display with Samsung’s Super-AMOLED technology which should continue to give colours a vibrant pop. Delving into the guts of the device uncovers a 64bit Quad Core Snapdragon 410 SoC clocked at 1.2Ghz, 2GB RAM, 2300 mAh non-removable battery, along with 16GB built-in storage and a microSD slot to expand the storage by up to 64GB. All of the above comes packed into a device that it just 6.7mm thin and weighs in at 123 grams.

The industrial design of this device is anything but mid-range. With an all aluminium unibody, the device will feel more premium in the hand than previous mid-range attempts. This is a welcome and thankfully emerging trend for mid-range devices that have perennially been regarded as the black sheep in device product line ups.

In terms of optics on this device, Samsung has opted for a 13-megaixel rear camera capable of 1080p video recording, and 5-megapixel front facing camera, which they say is perfect for selfies. This claim is further backed up with the implementation of many ‘selfie’/social media-based features such as Wide Selfie, Palm Selfie, Animated Gif creation, Beauty Face and Rear-Cam selfie modes.

The Galaxy A5 will be available in Three UK stores shortly and looks set to sport a much reduced price from Samsung’s flagship devices. Samsung’s RRP for this device is currently £349, so expect something similar once Three UK launches the device on their tariffs.
