Privacy is something many used to take for granted. Lock your door, close your windows, alarm your car and you’re good. Then the Internet hit and changed how we think of privacy, perhaps forever. If you’re not particularly technically minded but you want to enhance your privacy and security on your home or SOHO network, then this Kickstarter campaign might just be for you. Maybe the InvizBox 2 can help you?
The InvizBox 2 and InvizBox 2 Pro are VPN routers which allow users to easily secure all of their internet traffic, without a significant overhead unlike other solutions, and without having to install a VPN client on each device. The InvizBox 2 and InvizBox 2 Pro differ only in their internals with the Pro variant having a faster processor, more RAM, faster WiFi chip and a larger antenna designed for larger houses/apartments.
Essentially these boxes allow all of the devices that connect to the internet from within your network to access the Web via a VPN. That VPN is standard out of the box, however you get root access to these boxes so you can put whatever package you wish on the devices themselves. If you’re not a dabbler however, it’ll connect to the fastest VPN available via VPN provider IP Vanish. The embedded VPN service will be subscription based and those backing the project will receive varying lengths of subscription depending on their pledge.
If you’re not particularly thrilled with that, you can decide to connect to the Tor network but expect a decrease in speed.
Using 256Bit AES encryption by default, the InvizBox 2 also delivers easy configuration via Android and iOS apps, dual band WiFi, as well as per device configuration and parental controls. There are routers that will provide almost all of this functionality but they are significantly more expensive for the most part and normally a little more cumbersome to configure.
These boxes take on a very “smart home” aesthetic and will fit in with most consumers interior design thanks to the inoffensive build and we think that many would see this as a plug and play device that would be an asset to their security provision in their small office or increasingly smart home.
The InvizBox 2 Kickstarter has, at time of writing, a number of days to go to reach its €50,000 but it’s very close. Should they reach their goal, backers can expect to see units start shipping in April 2018. Head over to the InvizBox 2 Kickstarter page and see if it’s something for you.
