ZTE Announce the Axon 9 Pro – IFA 2018

ZTE likes IFA. They can often be seen draping a large piece of advertising over one of the halls, and this year is no different. This year they announced the Axon 9 Pro, their latest flagship device with a whole raft of flagship specifications.

Axon 9 Pro

You might be forgiven for wondering where the Axon 8 was? Yes, well, it’s not been an easy 12 months for the Chinese company and they’ve skipped straight to the Axon 9, now with additional Pro suffix.

This years flagship device delivers all the correct silicon, screen to body ratio and storage options you would expect from a 2018 smartphone.

Specifications – Axon 9 Pro

  • Snapdragon 845 processor
  • 6.21-inch AMOLED display with 18.7:9 aspect ratio
  • 4,000mAh battery
  • 12-megapixel and 20-megapixel rear camera sensors
  • 20-megapixel front facing camera sensor
  • 6GB RAM
  • 128GB of storage
  • Android 8.1 Oreo
  • USB-C connector
  • Micro SD card expansion

Overview – Axon 9 Pro

Moving away from the aluminium chassis of the Axon 7, the Axon 9 Pro delivers quite a departure from this, with a very 2017 feeling glass body, no doubt chosen to enable the use of Qi Wireless Charging which is included in this device.

We doubt you’ll need to use that too often to top up due to the included 4000 mAh batter inside the ZTE Axon 9 Pro. It’s not going to be stressed too much by the FHD+ display either, which, based on a cursory glance looks nice enough, but won’t enthuse those spec-hunters who won’t accept anything less than QHD+ in 2018. OnePlus and ZTE are perhaps the only devices out there in 2018 of flagship level using a 1080p panel. We don’t see anything wrong with this though and it will only aid battery life.

The 6.21″ AMOLED display will feature a tongue-twisting 18.7:9 aspect ratio which, ZTE claim, makes media consumption a delight! They also made mention of their Axon Vision technology which will deliver better contrast and smoother motion whilst also supporting HDR10.

The ubiquitous Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 powers the ZTE Axon 9 Pro, and with 6GB of RAM in two and 128GB of onboard storage with the chance to expand via Micro SD card, we doubt you’ll have any performance issues in day to day operations.

ZTE suggest that the Axon 9 Pro will retail for approximately €649 which might be a tough pill to swallow when the equally impressive, and perhaps more well-known of the two brands, OnePlus 6 is available for less.
